By the time we woke up – we are criminally lazy travellers – it was already in the mid-thirties outside, so we opted for a more sensible plan of action.
That involved mostly sitting around doing nothing – or in my case, sitting around near the bathroom, waiting for afflictions of the toiletty kind to pass – so relaxing and resting were the order of the day.
In the evening, once things had started to cool down a little, we were taken for a leisurely walk through Oradea, over the Podul Intelectualilor, through the Parcul 1 Decembrie, and on to the fortress.
The fortress has its roots in the 13th century, but has spent the last few hundred years being destroyed and rebuilt, and the last few being restored. Sadly, a private event was taking place the evening we went so we only had the chance to spend time ambling through the grounds, but that was just as fun.
Had we visited another night, we might’ve been able to watch a film there as part of the outdoor film festival. That said, if we’d been watching a film we’ve not have noticed the colours turn even more beautiful in the light of a dying day.
