Day twelve: Scorchio!

Nothing of any excitement happened today because it was, frankly, so hot that we hid in the house until our hosts arrived to take us for a walk in the cool of evening. Much like yesterday, really.

We had a walk to the Catedrala romano-catolică Adormirea Maicii Domnului and looked at its adjoining Hungarian palace – which contains 365 windows – though it was difficult to see much because, much like the rest of Oradea, the palace is undergoing extensive renovation work and, as it was late, the light was going. Mass was about to start inside the Basilica, but we were invited to have a quick look round but felt as if stopping to ooh and aah and take photographs was possibly taking the piss – just a little.

I’m hoping we’ll get to have another look – and get some better photos – tomorrow, when the light’s better. If the weather’s any kinder.

Palatul de Justitie, next to the central bank building (which looks more or less the same)

After a trip to the railway station to buy our tickets to Cluj-Napoca on Tuesday, and make the reservation for our journey from Cluj to Budapest on Friday, we ate the most amazing panininis at the Panino by Due Fratelli, next to the unsurprisingly beautiful Banca Naţională a României building.
